Rebels rally for victory

It certainly wasn't a game that anyone in attendance tonight will be telling their grandchildren about years from now, but for the die hard fans that withstood a brutal first 30 minutes, it was a satisfying finish.

With 10 minutes remaining in UNLV's contest against San Jose State, it felt like the season had officially hit rock bottom. The Spartans, who have only won one road game since their inception into the Mountain West Conference three years ago, held a double-digit lead and looked to be in full control.

Quite simply, the Rebels looked defeated. Layup after layup clanked off the rim. UNLV players, competing shorthanded after a rash of injuries, struggled to conjure up the momentum needed to make any type of run.

That was until the Rebels finally shook off whatever rust was holding them back. It came in a swarm. UNLV's defense started to trap and press for the full 90 feet and the Spartans had no answer.

SJSU went into full panic mode and the Rebels pounced. UNLV took it's first lead on a Patrick McCaw 3-pointer right in front of the Rebel bench.

UNLV shot 7-of-10 from the free throw line down the stretch to secure the 64-61 win.
